First Class February 26th Most classes on Tuesdays 6:30 – 8:00 pm; and one Wednesday, March 26, from 6:30 to 9 pm
Class Fee: $15 per person for the entire series. Participants must register to attend any or all of these discussions.
Materials Fee: $10
This is a series of discussions on the timely subject of parenting in today’s ever-changing world lead by people who have experience or certification in their field.Building a More Trusting Relationship with Your Child - This course is about helping parents develop a more trusting and peaceful relationship with their child. We will discuss what motivates behaviors and focus on specific skills and strategies that will raise the level of cooperation and problem-solving in the family. Parents will leave with handouts that include a detailed outline of discussion points and a reading list for further support. Being the parent you want to be - with the child you’ve been given is life’s challenge. School-Age Health Issues: Let’s face it. Our children are faced with things we did not have to worry about or even know about. It is important to be up to date on these issues that impact your child’s health. Topics may include Childhood diseases, Allergies, Stress, Acne, Skeletal Stresses/Scoliosis, Sleep Disorders, Asthma, ADHD, Sports Injuries, Tattoos and Body Piercing, Teenage Sexuality and the HPV Vaccination. This talk and Q&A will be given by Dr. Susan Lemei on Tuesday, March 4, 6:30-8pm
Personal Financing Management: What your teen needs to know about managing their own credit report, how to avoid credit abuse and debt, balancing a check book and learning to manage their own financial future. As this reality is information for them, it is recommended, but certainly not required, that your teen accompany you to this session (at no additional charge). College and Career Readiness Preparation - What your teen needs to know to prepare for his/her future. This talk will introduce parents to the college planning process and to career explorations; also to finding resources for these processes. Talk given by Pamela O’Neil, Tuesday, March 18, 7 to 8:30pm
Internet Safety for Our Children: What are the real dangers and what are we just plain uninformed about? How do parents keep their children safe online? Presentation with include information on Cyber Predators, Cyber bullying, Cyber Security, and personal safety. Other topics will include Identity Theft, Intellectual Property and Social Networks such as Myspace and Facebook. This talk will be given by Paul Faenza on Wednesday, March 26, and run from 6:30 to 9 pm

Teacher Biographies
LYNN BEEHLER (Parenting Series: Personal Financing Management) has a Masters of Business Administration and is the area’s BSA Merit Badge Counselor for Personal Management.
PAUL FAENZA (Parenting Series: Internet Safety for Our Children) is the Program Coordinator for the Black River Area Community Coalition which serves the towns of Ludlow, Mount Holly and Plymouth. He is a Certified Internet Safety Trainer through i-SAFE America and has conducted internet training to students, parents, teachers and communities throughout Vermont. Prior to working for the coalition, he was a member of the NYC Police Department conducting drug related investigations which involved the use of computers, the internet and chat rooms to facilitate transactions.
DR. SUSAN LEMEI (Parenting Series: School-Age Health Issues) is a family physician who practices in Chester. She received her medical degree from the University Rochester and completed her residency in Family Medicine at Central Maine Medical Center. Also an avid tuba player, she performs with the Grafton Cornet Band, the Windham Orchestra, the Brattleboro American Legion Band and the Monadnock Brass Quintet.
PAMELA O’NEIL (Parenting Series: College and Career Readiness Preparation) is a Certified Guidance Counselor 7 – 12 and the former Headmaster at the Okemo Mountain School for nine years. She was the Guidance Director at the Black River High School from 2002 to 2005 and has been the Guidance Director at Green Mountain Union High School since then.
NANCY PENNELL (Parenting Series: Building a More Trusting Relationship with Your Child). As the parent of four grown children, she has honed her skills on them as well as on hundreds of teenage girls who have attended the residential summer camp that she has directed for 25 years, Aloha Camp in Fairlee Vermont. She is a graduate of the University of Mississippi with a BA in Philosophy and English and is certified in Control Theory through William Glasser Institute.
