Course: Introduction to Digital Photography

The course will cover the basics of photography; composition, subject management, lighting, perspective, and equipment, as it applies to digital photography.
The final class will take place at The Message where students will learn how to take a raw digital photo and prepare it through Photoshop for storage, emailing, printing, or publication.
This class, which will address people, landscape and still life subjects, is suitable for adults, as well as teens who are serious about the craft of photography.
Class Pre-requisites: Students should arrive with their own digital camera, fresh batteries, knowledge of how to operate the basic functions of their camera and the appropriate digital storage card for their camera capable of storing 40 or more images. Students must read their owner's manual prior to the first class in order to know the basic tools and controls.
PAUL LAROCHELLE - a Vermont Criminal Justice Council-certified crime scene photographer, has over 2,000 images published in regional print outlets including The Message, Vermont Green Mountain Guide and Outdoors Magazine. Larochelle was also responsible for guiding The Message from film to digital capture including software, hardware and camera selection. He was a photo “stringer” for The Message from 1984 to 1994 and a full-time photographer/editor/journalist with the newspaper from 1994 to present. After completing over 150 weddings and 400 portraits for his clients, Larochelle sold his studio, ProPhoto, and turned to sharing his enthusiasm for photography. He has taught students at Fletcher Farm School for the Arts and Crafts, Chester-Andover Elementary School and has accepted an artist-in-residence gig at Cavendish Town Elementary School in 2008.
